When you put the names LeBron James and Lance Stephenson together, what is the first thing that comes to mind?
A light breeze into the ear, right?
During Game 5 of the 2014 Eastern Conference finals, Stephenson blew into James’ ear, leaving LeBron with an incredulous grin. James ultimately got the last laugh, though, with the Heat eliminating the Pacers in Game 6, but that moment became the defining image of the series.
So what made Stephenson try that bizarre move on James?
“I was really trying to get him mad. Really trying to win the game, trying to get him unfocused,” Stephenson told The Score. “I would try anything.”
Four years later, the former rivals are teammates on a new-look Lakers roster. Knowing things will be different this season, Stephenson reflected on that moment — and he still doesn’t know what was going through his mind. “I don’t regret it,” Stephenson said, “but sometimes I look at it like, ‘Why did I do that? What made me do that?'”
Those questions are just part of the Lance Stephenson experience. LeBron can sit back and enjoy the show now.
